I know what you’re thinking…you’re (almost) 30 years old and eating bologna?! And I say to that, yep! I’ve been trying to find new lunch ideas because I’m getting tired of the old lunch meat sandwiches every day. So I know what you’re thinking again…but bologna IS a lunch meat! Yes I know…but oh it brings me back to when I was a kid, so I’m letting this one slide. Introducing Applegate Naturals Uncured Turkey Bologna.
I actually get excited when I’m about to take the first bite into my sandwich. It’s reminiscent of the good old Oscar Mayer B-O-L-O-G-N-A…but with what I’m calling a more sophisticated flavor. Seriously! It has a kind of smokiness to it. And the slices aren’t as thick so it’s not as rubbery as regular bologna. I’ve found it’s a really good alternative to your traditional cold cut sandwich. I found this particular variety at Trader Joe’s.
A huge plus is that it doesn’t contain any preservatives, nitrates, gluten, casein or antibiotics. Literally the only ingredients are turkey, water, sea salt, spices, garlic powder, paprika (probably that smokiness I’m tasting!), spice extract and paprika extract. I’m calling it bologna for grown-ups. It makes everybody happy…even the turkeys that are “raised on sustainable family farms in a stress-free environment that promotes natural behavior and socialization.” 🙂
